Getting Your Master Ready
You're just completed your best work... It's "in the can." You're ready to give us the final master copy... What's the first thing you should do?
Make back-ups. Make back-ups. Did we mention making back-ups?
It sounds silly but you'd be surprised how many people do not have enough backups of their work. It's not like told days... hey it's just another cd or dvd ...make copies!
Beyond that, here are the technical specs that you need to be aware of when you hand off your master disc to us.
Audio CD Production Master Specifications
MAKE BACK-UP COPIES. DO NOT send us the only copies of your masters.
Maximum standard length is 74 minutes.*
Maximum number of CD tracks is 99 in sequential order.
Minimum track length is 4 seconds.
CD-R master specifications
CD-Rs must conform to Red Book standard, must be recorded "Disc at Once" NOT "Track at Once", single session recording (unless enhanced CD - see Enhanced CD Specifications).
Use ONLY high-quality media.
CD-R master must be free of digital errors.
CD-Rs must be free of fingerprints, scratches and/or dirt on the reading surface of the disc.
CD-Rs should be packaged in single jewel boxes (not envelopes) to protect them from damage during shipping.
DO NOT use ballpoint pens to write information onto a CD-R as this could destroy the disc.
Verify source to ensure that is correct and error free before sending us audio CD master. (i.e. audio quality is acceptable and free of noise, the levels throughout are close to -3 to 0 dB and don't clip, pauses between tracks are correct and noise-free, audio sequences match track sheet)
Note ALL bonus/hidden tracks.
* According to Red Book standards maximum length for audio CDs is 74 minutes. Due to the increased usage of 80 minute CD-Rs, the length of replicated media has been pushed to its limits. We still recommend Red Book standards be followed to ensure 100% compatibility with all CD players. If your CD-R master is beyond 74 minutes, please ensure you notify your Healey Music representative.
