Design Supplied Specifications

You are currently in the "Design Supplied Specifications" section of our web site. You will need to follow these specifications if you will be sending us completed digital artwork files for us to output film from for the printed portions of your project.

General Technical Specifications and Information

All artwork must conform to Healey Music templates.

All of your artwork files should be sent to us in an acceptable format (see Supported Formats, listed below).

You can send us your files on diskette, CD-R, or alternatively, you can transfer them to us via FTP or e-mail (contact your Healey Music Sales Representative or the Healey Music Graphics Department for more information on sending us files via FTP or e-mail).

U.S. clients must be sure to include "Made in Canada." in their artwork such that it will be clearly visible on the outside of their packaged final product (traycard, and/or back flap of j-card and CD label if ordering bulk CDs). U.S. Customs requires that "Made in Canada." is present on all product manufactured in Canada destined for resale in the U.S.

All files must be color separation ready (i.e.: CMYK (SWOP coated), greyscale, and / or PMS® (solid coated)).

All files must have the correct settings for trapping (0.216pt - 0.36pt for offset printing, 0.2pt for silkscreening).

All support files must be supplied with final layout.

Support File Definition and Specifications:

All fonts must be supplied (both screen and post script).

All images must be supplied (images should be TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) or EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) format, in CMYK (or greyscale for black and white), at 300ppi resolution).

Your artwork must properly identify ALL crop marks, perforations, and fold lines.

Your artwork must include registration crosshairs (and center crosshairs where applicable).

Your artwork must include plate identifications for separations: CMYK and PMS.

Your artwork must include the artist's name, the project title, a catalogue#, and an item description (eg., traycard front).

We recommend sending accurate color proofs of your artwork along with your files so that we can compare them to your graphics files and ensure that what you've supplied us will output what you expect.

Supported Formats

We accept artwork in the following formats:

* WE STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST CREATING CD LABEL ARTWORK SOLEY IN PHOTOSHOP. Read through our vector vs. raster graphics section on for more information on this.

* It is possible that we can use your files if set up in a program other than what is listed above, HOWEVER, you should contact your Healey Music Sales Representative BEFORE sending us your files, in order to verify that they are, in fact, useable.

Using QuarkXPress

All fonts must be supplied (both screen and PostScript®.)

"Styles" should NOT be used, use an actual font (eg., if you use Arial Bold, be sure to use the actual Arial Bold font, DO NOT just use Arial Regular, with a bold style applied).

All images must be supplied (images should be TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) or EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) format, in CMYK (or grayscale for black and white), at 300ppi resolution). All alterations (scaling, rotation, etc.) of placed images should be made in the program of the image's origin (eg., Adobe Photoshop).

Artwork should be set up using CMYK (or greyscale for black and white) for the components to be printed using CMYK printing, and PMS colors (solid coated selections only), should be used for the CD label art.

Trapping should be set to between 0.003" and 0.005" (0.216pt and 0.36pt).

Using Adobe Illustrator

All images should be embedded (NOT linked).

The original placed images must be in CMYK (or greyscale for black and white), at 300ppi resolution.

Placed images should be placed files originally saved as TIFF (Tagged Image File Format), or PSD (Photoshop document). All alterations (scaling, rotation, etc.) of placed images should be made in the program of the image's origin (eg., Adobe Photoshop).

All objects in Illustrator must be in CMYK or greyscale (or Pantone Coated Solid if applicable).

All fonts must be provided and/or converted to "curves" or "outlines".

Using Adobe Photoshop

All fonts must be supplied.

All files must be in CMYK mode (or greyscale for black and white), at 300ppi resolution.

You should be working in the SWOP, coated color space [may be listed as U.S. Web Coated (SWOP)].

If a duotone file was set up for the CD label artwork, the file must be saved as a Photoshop EPS or PSD.

You should NOT flatten your final artwork before sending it to us; you should send us your layered files (just in case we need to make any adjustments). *Be sure to use our templates in a different layer than the one containing your artwork so that they do not blend together resulting in the template becoming a part of your final design.
